Dear Counselors, Teachers, Parents, and Educators,

On July 12 and August 23, Dr. Jeffrey Rothkopf and Higher Standards SAT & Tutorial Specialists will be offering free SAT/PSAT workshops for students and their parents.  Each workshop includes a one-hour practice test and a 100-minute SAT facts/strategies class.  If you have any students who may be taking the SAT or PSAT this upcoming school year, we encourage them to reserve a space for this free seminar.  The seminar will provide valuable practice and lessons that are likely to help your students to achieve better scores on the exam, and it will also provide important guidance for parents to navigate the standardized test and college application maze.

Since Higher Standards also offers full-length SAT courses, students and parents can use this opportunity to ask questions about the program and to experience the teaching style of the instructor with whom they would be working should they choose to take the Higher Standards course.

Any interested people (students, parents, teachers, counselors, etc.) can reserve seats.  However, do note that space is limited, so they should call 305-234-2565 as soon as possible.

Please do pass on this information to anyone you think might benefit from it.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Michele Kass Rothkopf
Co-Director, Higher Standards Tutorial

FREE SAT PRACTICE TEST & STRATEGIES/FACTS CLASS

Higher Standards Tutorial is offering a free SAT/PSAT practice test and strategy class to all local high school students and their parents.  Students will take a one-hour practice exam, which will be scored immediately to provide an estimate of current SAT and PSAT performance levels.  The test will be followed by an in-depth 100-minute class covering SAT/PSAT facts and strategies that can help students to improve their scores.  Valuable information to guide parents and students will also be provided.
The class is taught by Dr. Jeffrey Rothkopf, a homeschooling parent who has devoted both his personal life and his professional life to education.  Dr. Rothkopf has been a popular teacher and SAT instructor for the past 25 years and is also Director of Higher Standards, a local organization that provides expert academic tutoring in and out of students' homes.  The free workshop offers a great opportunity to get SAT practice, lessons, and advice.  For students seeking the best SAT prep program, it is also an invaluable opportunity to "test-drive" Dr. Rothkopf, who teaches all Higher Standards SAT courses and who has attained perfect scores in all three SAT sections.
The free class and test will meet at the Holiday Inn at 1350 S. Dixie Highway, five blocks north of Shoppes at Sunset Place.  It will be offered on the following days:

                  1.  Sunday July 12, 2009, 10 am - 1:15 pm

Science Classes at Deering/MetroZoo

E-mail Print PDF

The Deering Estate at Cutler and Merozoo offers on site programming opportunities that are designed to enhanced learning opportunities for homeschooling families. Our Eco-Academy for Parent Educators and Youth provides a rich, hands-on curriculum in the field of animal kingdom, animal adaptations, endangered species, marine biology, archaeology, and environmental sciences. The program’s main goal is to complement more formal educational programs (homeschool, public and private school curriculum) with the opportunity to apply Eco-Academy materials and lessons to real life situations. All programs are correlated to the Florida Department of Education Standards. They engage participants in interactive, positive and balanced activities to foster understanding and appreciation, as we think critically about the world around us. Educational & Interpretative from both facilities provide parent educators with fossils, artifacts and tools, preserved specimens, photographs and simple laboratory experiments to help illustrate the key points of a specific topic. The program will accommodate up to 30 people per class,  and will last for 30 weeks during the academic year.

PATH sponsored classes are held on Mondays from 2:00 to 4:00. Cost is $5.00 per class per person, plus a $10.00 yearly registration fee per person.
